Hello Everyone,

SLEEPOVER THIS SATURDAY 8/14/10

Yay!! Sleepover time!! Drop off will be at 6pm on Saturday & Pickup will be before 9am on Sunday. We get pizza from Oreganos on Saturday; play games, free play, watch a movie! Sunday Sensei Roseann makes pancakes for everyone! Bring your sleeping bag & pillow. The fee is $25 to sleepover & get picked up by 9am on Sunday - or - $20 if you leave by 10pm on Saturday. A.F.A. Karate Camp is almost over!! We only have 1 more week of camp with openings so if you have been thinking about it, you may want to call to reserve your child’s place. For current A.F.A. Karate members, Camp is $125 a week or $30 per day from 9am-3pm. We offer early drop off & late pickup from 8am-5:30pm if needed at $5. extra per day. During camp we do karate, gymnastics, weapons, outdoor & indoor group play.

FREE Unlimited Classes for non-students ages 13 & older - If you have a family member or friend 13 years old or older you can give them the summer at A.F.A. Karate for FREE!! This is valid for all family members or friends of current A.F.A. Karate members!!! During the month of August your friends & family members can train at A.F.A. Karate for FREE!!!! They must be 13 or older to take advantage of this offer.

Morning classes will end next week on 8/19/10. Morning classes are as follows:

9:30am – White belts – Green Belts

10:15am – High Green Belts – Black Belts

TESTING will be on 8/28/10

The testing schedule should be posted in the waiting room by tomorrow. The only students who will be testing will be some of the white & orange belts.

ADVANCED NOTICE FOR TESTING – SET ASIDE THESE DATES

If you know in advance that you won’t be able to make the test date, please let Roseann know as soon as possible so she can try to work around your schedule.

IF YOU CURRENTLY ARE:

Yellow, High Yellow or Green Belt – You are categorized as "Beginner" students & your next test will be 9/25/10. If you attend class regularly, you will test every 3 months.

High Green, Purple or High Purple Belt – You are categorized as "Intermediate" students & your next test will be 12/12/10 or 12/18/10. If you attend class regularly, you will test every 6 months.

Red, Brown, High Brown, 1^st Kyu Brown Belts – You are categorized as "Advanced" students & your next test will be 12/12/10 or 12/18/10. If you attend class regularly, you will test every 6 months.

1^st Degree Black Belt to 4^th Degree Black Belts – You are categorized as "Black Belt" students & your next test will be on 9/25/10. If you attend class regularly, you will test every 7-9 months.

NEW SCHEDULE BEGINNING 9/1/10

Our Sept-May schedule will start on…yes you guessed it…9/1/10. Almost everything is the same except for Fridays & Saturdays & the changes on these days may not even affect your class. Most students will not be affected by the new schedule.

AFA CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY 9/6/10

We will be closed on Monday 9/6/10 to celebrate Labor Day & the last weekend before school begins!

TOURNAMENT 9/12/10

This tournament will be held at CCSU in New Britain, CT. Sensei Roseann will be helping run this tournament & it is a fundraiser for the Channel 3 kid’s camp. You are encouraged to compete &/or go to show your support to your fellow classmates & Team A.F.A. Team A.F.A. will be putting on a demonstration at this tournament & we would like as many people as we can get to help cheer them on! This should be a good tournament; all competitors will receive a medal. It is pre-registration ONLY & you must hand in your form before the end of August.

TOURNAMENT AT A.F.A. KARATE FRIDAY NIGHT 9/24/10

Sensei Roseann will be hosting a tournament at A.F.A. Karate on Friday, 9/24/10. This will be a small, friendly, positive, low cost, intro to tournaments. All participants will receive a medal. The fee will be $10 & there will NOT be a fee for spectators. This is pre-registration only! You must hand in your registration by 9/18/2010.

TESTING 9/25/10

All classes except for the 8:45am class will be closed due to testing. All White thru High Orange belts can attend this class. Please see the schedule in the waiting room for exact test times. Beginners & some white & orange belts will be testing.

10/3/10 – Tournament in Waterbury, CT – If you are interested, please contact Sensei Roseann.

TESTING 10/23/10 – All classes except for the 8:45am class will be closed due to testing. All White thru High Orange belts can attend this 8:45am class. Please see the schedule in the waiting room for exact test times. Some white & orange belts will be testing. No other belts will be testing today.

A.F.A. KARATE’S ANNUAL FALL FUN PARTY!!!! 10/23/10 Noon-4pm

MOONWALKS, OUTDOOR GAMES, SNACKS, FOOD, FUN! New this year we will have horseshoes & badminton/volleyball. All current & past students are welcome along with any of their family & friends. If you would like to bring something to share please sign up with the office. You are free to wear your Halloween costume if you’d like! It is always fun to see all the cool costumes!

11/12/10 - TOURNAMENT AT A.F.A. KARATE FRIDAY NIGHT 11/12/10

Word of mouth is the best for any business! Other than the rent, advertising is the biggest expense for our business. Help us keep the cost down by helping spread the word! Now that we are getting close to back to school & a more regimented life, I am hoping you can all help spread the word for A.F.A. Karate. Please tell your friends & family about your positive experiences at A.F.A. We encourage you to post you’re A.F.A. Karate pictures & videos on your facebook, myspace, twitter, etc accounts & make sure to mention A.F.A. Please ask Roseann, Holly or Chrissy for some "VIP" cards to pass out to your friends. Each VIP card gives your friend a free month at A.F.A. Karate!! If your friend signs up for karate after their free month you will receive TEN KARATE DOLLARS! You can use karate dollars towards ANYTHING we sell or provide (tuition, gear, uniforms, novelties, sleepovers, tournaments) anything means anything. Help us spread the word & earn some cash! THANK YOU!

Team A.F.A. Members – please notify Renee if you will not be able to make the team practice on Friday night. As you know you all have been working on a demonstration & you are partnered up with other team member. If one of you is missing, it is very hard to practice the section with only one member.
